The Reason Why Community Matters

I recently played in a corn hole tournament called Bags Against Bullied. It involved people coming together to give charity to a cause that is well known in school and online.

This corn hole tournament was held at a lighting warehouse in Santa Rosa hosted by Corday Lighting. It was great people coming together to sponsor corn hole boards, food and silent auction items.

This event included contractors, vendors and others caring for others in a small-town setting. What I saw was not just people that work together but genuine friendships and fun competition in the name of helping others in need.

This event was an eye opener. It made me realize that the friends and mentors I've made in CLCA are the real reason why people remain in the organization. We are a large community of industry-related people who rely on one another in many ways, to disseminate information we receive from the state and from each other, to catch up with old friends and make new ones, and on occasion, to help the general community and our clients.

Our community is growing in diversity, and this is a good sign for the future of our chapter. Another good sign for our chapter would be the growing of our Board. You can help in that area by donating a little time and some ideas to the landscape industry and our community by becoming a member of the Channel Islands Chapter Board. We are all busy – just like you – but I have found that the time and effort I put into this chapter pays back double in contacts, friendships, positive feelings of accomplishment…and yes…new clients.

Chapter elections are in October, so now’s the time to let me know you are interested in stepping up and becoming a part of the leadership of this great chapter. Call me. If there isn’t a position on the Board that interests you, we’ll come up with one that does. We need your help now.
